Struan McRoberts took a group from St. Denys Church in Lisvane to Spree Wales 2011. This is what he had to say about it.
As a church youth leader I see Spree Wales as an excellent resource. For starters it is a multi-activity weekend at a bargain price. Shop around and you won’t get close to that many activities for the costs involved! It also comes with the reassurance of backing by big organizations that know what they’re doing – and are happy to help you in any aspect of your bookings and camping. The process of organizing and going to Spree is a relatively easy one – giving peace of mind for anyone that either has to organize their own activity weekends or those without experience who would otherwise be a bit nervous about it!
The age-specific teaching is always a draw as it means that whatever age group you are taking, you can always expect them to find some worship and teaching over the weekend that will engage, challenge and inspire them. It also means that you can bring along children and young people from all points in the u18s ministries of the Church – giving opportunities for shared experiences that they don’t often otherwise get. As leaders it is a relaxed and stress-free way of spending time with our children and young people – deepening relationships and learning more about them. This makes Spree an excellent place to reflect on and shape what we do with them for the rest of the year too.
For all these reasons, we now consider Spree Wales as a fixture in our Church calendar. And the great news is – because they are always learning, improving and growing – it gets better and better every year! Roll on next year’s Spree Wales!!
